A legal obligation for accommodation providers
Tourist accommodation providers in Portugal must report the arrival, departure and identification details of the foreign citizens they host to the competent authorities.
Check-in Direct.pt makes this collection easier. Only the information required to complete the accommodation bulletin and comply with this legal obligation is requested.

Legal information
The Convention implementing the Schengen Agreement, signed in 1990, established cooperation measures between participating countries to strengthen security and combat illegal practices, including human trafficking.
In Portugal, establishments providing paid accommodation to foreign citizens are legally required to collect and report their identification details, as well as their arrival and departure dates.
This information is reported through the Accommodation Bulletin Information System — SIBA, under the responsibility of the Border and Foreign Nationals Coordination Unit — UCFE.
This obligation is laid down in Article 45 of the Convention implementing the Schengen Agreement and Articles 15 and 16 of Portuguese Law No. 23/2007 of 4 July, as amended.
